O HUI skincare in Australia: start with moisture, not stem cells

O HUI skincare: The First Geniture Cell Essential Source 120ml bottle

Between January 2013 and February 2025, O HUI sold more than 4.45 million cushion compacts, according to its parent company, LG Household & Health Care. It is a striking number. The public story of O HUI skincare is something else: ageing research, ceramide creams and a stem-cell flagship sold at department-store counters.

The two halves do not cancel each other out. Together they explain why the brand is worth a closer look from Australia. O HUI has been on Korean counters since 1997, it sits in the same LG H&H stable as The History of Whoo and su:m37°, and its range runs from a lightweight ceramide emulsion to a cream sold in Korea as a premium stem-cell cosmetic.

It is also a brand going through a reset. Its China business shrank, its prices in Korea went up twice in little more than a year, and in 2026 LG H&H was describing it as its "luxury derma brand". Which O HUI you buy matters more than the logo on the box.

In short

O HUI is LG H&H's research-led skincare and make-up brand, on Korean counters since 1997.

Its strongest everyday products are the ceramide-based Miracle Moisture line and the cushion compacts, which have sold more than 4.45 million units.

A lab-built brand behind a department-store counter

No founder's name sits on the jar. O HUI was developed inside LG H&H by its own laboratory researchers, and the brand dates its skin-science work to 1997 (LG H&H's US site gives the same founding year). In the company's cosmetics business it is grouped with The History of Whoo and su:m37°, and LG H&H describes it as the group's stem-cell-technology brand.

The house vocabulary is scientific. LG H&H's brand page calls O HUI a "De-Aging Solution" and talks about "Micro Aging Science", the idea that two people of the same age can show ageing very differently. The brand says it has built a data archive of 60,000 skin (gene) pattern codes and 830,000 data points on active ingredients since 1997. Those are company figures, best read as a statement of intent.

Its home in Korea is the department store. In January 2007 LG H&H launched O HUI The First as a premium skincare line sold only at department stores. In March 2026 a new O HUI sunscreen was still being sold through O HUI department-store counters nationwide, the brand's online store and major e-commerce platforms.

It is a smaller piece of the group than the counters suggest. Cosmetics Design Asia reported in November 2023 that O HUI made up about 4% of LG H&H's total sales, while the company named it a key brand for investment.

What the stem-cell story really means

"Stem cell" on an O HUI box refers to ingredients made from or modelled on stem-cell culture, not to living stem cells in the formula. It lives in The First, where O HUI keeps its most expensive ideas. The original 2007 line had five products built around stemSP, which LG H&H described as a protein said to stimulate skin stem cells, plus Pycnogenol.

The partnership that defines the line came next. LG H&H signed a strategic partnership with CHA Bio & Diostech in 2009 for stem-cell cosmetics. In January 2010 it launched eight anti-ageing items in The First series built on a recombinant human stem cell protein. The later The First Geniture Cream was described in LG H&H's own launch release as a stem-cell cosmetic using human stem cell culture solution, aimed at department-store and direct-sales customers.

Today's version of the idea is the ingredient O HUI calls Signature 29 Cell™, which its site says was found together with CHA Biotech.

The product LG H&H names as the line's representative is The First Geniture Sym-Micro Essence. O HUI lists Signature 29 Cell™ and a lactic-acid-bacteria ferment lysate in it, and LG H&H's research page calls it a major product of the company's microbiome technology, with 500,000 probiotics lysate per drop by the company's count. Around it sit a skin softener, an emulsion, an eye cream and the O HUI The first Geniture Cell Essential Source.

O HUI skincare lines, sorted by what your skin wants

Beyond The First, O HUI sorts its lines by concern, which makes it easier to shop. Age Recovery is the collagen line. LG H&H relaunched it in December 2015 as six items built around an ingredient it called Baby Collagen™, and in November 2019 added a Wrinkle Cut Serum, the line's first wrinkle-focused serum. The brand's US site now describes the complex in the O HUI Age Recovery Cream as 3X Alpha Collagen™, aimed at the look of firmness and fine lines.

Prime Advancer is the firming line. The brand says its ampoule serum took 45 months, 96 researchers, 637 screened raw materials and about 700 experiments to develop. In May 2026 the line gained the O HUI Prime Advancer Original Energy 100 Ampoule, which LG H&H presents as the heir to a bestselling 2005 ampoule of the same name. Korean coverage of the launch lists hydrolysed PDRN at 90% or more alongside a recombinant collagen ingredient, aimed at the cheeks and the area around the mouth.

Extreme White is the brightening line, launched in March 2015. Its current headliner, the O HUI Extreme White Niacinamide 10% TX Melatoning Cream, pairs 10% niacinamide with tranexamic acid and is aimed at the look of dark spots that keep coming back. O HUI's homepage names it among the brand's flagship products.

Miracle Moisture is the barrier line, and for many Australian skin types the most useful of the four.

Cream, sunscreen and cushion in Australian weather

The core of Miracle Moisture is what LG H&H calls Chiffon Ceramide Complex™, a blend of ceramides 1, 3 and 6 that the company describes as forming a soft moisture network. The O HUI Miracle Moisture Ceramide Boosting Cream is pink in the jar and recommended by the brand for normal to dry skin.

The Ceramide Boosting Cream is built on a blend of ceramides 1, 3 and 6.

That cream is the one to reach for when winter arrives in June and the heater runs all evening. For a humid Brisbane or Darwin morning, the lighter pieces make more sense. The brand describes the Miracle Moisture Pink Barrier Emulsion as lightweight and fast-absorbing, and says the essence in the line glides on without stickiness. Under sunscreen, an emulsion alone is often enough.

O HUI's sun care sits under the Day Shield name. The O HUI Day Shield Perfect Sun Black carries SPF 50+ and PA++++ as labelled in Korea. The US label for its American version lists both mineral filters (titanium dioxide, zinc oxide) and chemical ones (octisalate, octocrylene). In March 2026 the range added a pastel-purple tone-up sunscreen with niacinamide and tranexamic acid, meant to neutralise the look of yellowness and redness.

Then there are the cushions, the part of O HUI with the biggest sales number. The 4.45 million figure covers O HUI cushions sold from January 2013 to February 2025. In March 2025 the brand added the Ultimate Cover Denier Cushion, in shades stepped by half a tone and two coverage weights: 70D for thin, natural coverage and 100D for denser cover over spots and blemishes. The Ultimate Fit Jean Cushion's limited-edition denim packaging won an iF Design Award in 2025. On an Australian summer day, a cushion works best as a top-up over a proper sunscreen layer, not as the only protection.

The case against buying O HUI

Start with the business. In the fourth quarter of 2021, BusinessKorea reported, O HUI's China sales fell more than 30% while Whoo grew. By November 2023 LG H&H planned to scale back offline operations in China for O HUI and su:m37° while preparing both for rebranding. A brand in the middle of a rebrand can rename things, and a product you liked may return in new packaging under a new name.

Prices have moved too. LG H&H raised prices on some O HUI products in Korea in late October 2023, and again across The First, Prime Advancer, Miracle Moisture and Extreme White in January 2025, a rise Cosmetics Design Asia linked to imported-ingredient costs and a weak won.

Then the numbers. Almost every efficacy figure attached to O HUI comes from the company's own tests, and some launches publish results without a sample size or method. Treat them as the brand's claims, nothing more.

The range itself is wide enough to be confusing. A handful of skincare lines, a stem-cell flagship, several cushion families and a full colour range make it easy to buy two products that do the same job. If your skin is oily and settled, much of the moisture line will feel like more than you need. For one bottle with a clear purpose, O HUI's Extreme White or Miracle Moisture will make more sense than the prestige of The First.

What to buy first, and in what order

Build from the bottom of the range up, and only move to The First once the basics have earned their place.

  1. O HUI Miracle Moisture Ceramide Boosting Cream 60ml: the clearest expression of what the brand does well, and the right weight for an Australian winter.
  2. O HUI Ultimate Cover Cushion Moisture: the cushions carry O HUI's biggest sales figure, and this one comes in shades #1 and #2 in a 15g x 2 pack.
  3. O HUI Extreme White Niacinamide 10% TX Melatoning Cream: the one to choose if uneven tone and dark spots bother you more than dryness.
  4. O HUI The First Geniture Sym-Micro Essence: the single step from the flagship worth testing before committing to the whole line.
